Paralympics 2024: do you need the QR code required for access to certain areas of Paris?

As part of the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, which run from August 28 to September 8, 2024, access to certain neighborhoods is restricted to ensure the safety of residents and spectators. A digital pass is essential to travel by motorized vehicle in the areas of Paris located near the competition sites. You do not need it if you are a pedestrian or cyclist.

During the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games (August 28 to September 8, 2024), as during the Olympic Games security perimeters are activated around the competition venues each day of events (they are activated 2 hours 30 minutes before the first competition and deactivated 1 hour after the last).

The immediate vicinity of the competition venues is only accessible:

  • holders of a spectator ticket or an accreditation Paris 2024.
  • vehicles accredited by Paris 2024 and emergency vehicles.

This security perimeter is tightened as close as possible to the sites, in order to limit the impact on residents.

Three additional security perimeters are then set up. The principle is that the further away you go from the competition site, the fewer restrictions there are.

Within the Black Perimeter (where searches and pat-downs of anyone entering a competition site are carried out), only the following are allowed to pass:

  • holders of a spectator ticket or an accreditation Paris 2024;
  • local residents;
  • vehicles accredited by Paris 2024, those of the Emergencies and those of the Internal Security Forces.

Then, within the red perimeter (aimed at minimizing the risk of terrorism and ensuring the safety of local residents and the public entering or leaving a competition venue):

  • if you are a pedestrian, cyclist or scooter, you can move freely;
  • if you are in a motor vehicle, you must have a Pass Games.

Finally, within the blue perimeter (used to regulate motorized traffic in the vicinity of competition venues):

  • if you are a pedestrian, cyclist or scooter, you can move freely;
  • if you are on board a motor vehicle, you must provide any kind of proof (e.g. proof of residence or a work certificate) to show that you have a legitimate reason to travel in this sector.

If you have obtained a Pass Games during the Olympic Games to travel in a motor vehicle within a red perimeter (excluding opening ceremony), this pass is still valid during the Paralympic Games (except opening ceremony and paracycling events on road from 3 to 7 September in Seine-Saint-Denis and Seine-et-Marne).

You can verify that an address is covered by a security perimeter and know the access conditions with the interactive map available on the government website anticipate games.

Warning  

The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games takes place on August 28, 2024 on Place de la Concorde and Avenue des Champs-Élysées. Around this area, a “red” security perimeter is set up on the day of the event from 6 p.m. You can view this security perimeter on an interactive map on the anticipate games website. If you are in a motor vehicle, you must have a Game Pass to travel within this perimeter. If you are a pedestrian or a cyclist, you can move around freely.

During road paracycling events, which take place from 3 to 7 September 2024 in Seine-Saint-Denis and Seine-et-MarneHowever, if you wish to travel in the competition area on a motor vehicle you must have a Game Pass. You can consult the course of these events on the site anticipate games.

Please note

Some Olympic Games competition venues are not used during the Paralympic Games, for example:

  • the Bourget climbing site;
  • the Saint-Denis aquatic center, which has hosted artistic swimming, diving and water polo events;
  • the Concorde, which hosted BMX freestyle, breaking, skateboarding and 3×3 basketball events.

How do I get your digital pass?

To obtain your digital pass, you must apply on the pass-games platform.

During your request, you will be asked in particular:

  • a copy of a proof of identity;
  • photo identification;
  • the copy of the registration certificate and the registration number;
  • depending on your situation, proof of residence, temporary accommodation, work or visit in the area (restaurant booking, show booking...).

The QR code will not be issued to you immediately. For security reasons, an administrative investigation is carried out to validate your request. Then the pass is sent to you by email. When inspected by the authorities, you can:

  • display your pass on your phone;
  • present it in paper format after printing.

FYI  

The digital pass applies to all persons over the age of 13. It is:

  • free;
  • individual;
  • nominative.

You cannot give another person a digital pass that you have obtained for your own use.

Please note

If you are applying for a pass to work, you can provide:

  • an employment contract;
  • a letter of assignment;
  • an employer certificate with the name of the employer and the address of the activity within the security perimeter (a model is available on the "pass-games" website);
  • a business card.

An employer may apply for its employees. The number of employees per application is limited to 15 (if you register more than 15 people, it is possible to make several applications).
