Children born to a mother who has taken sodium valproate or any of its derivatives (Depakine®, Depakote®, Depamide®, Micropakine® and its generics) can file a claim with Oniam.
The parents or legal representatives of these children also have the possibility to file a file with the National Office for Compensation of Medical Accidents (Oniam). The Ministry of Solidarity and Health also indicates that Oniam will soon send a letter to all patients who have taken sodium valproate during the last 2 years to inform them of the existence of this compensation scheme.
Reminder
Sodium valproate is a drug used to treat epilepsy and bipolar disorder. However, if sodium valproate is taken by a pregnant woman, it can cause deformities and neurodevelopmental problems in the unborn child.
