As part of World Organ Donation Day on October 17, 2021, find out what you need to know about organ donation and removal.
Everyone shall be presumed to have consented to the donation of his organs unless he registers in the national register of refusals.
However, to avoid any difficulty, it is recommended to let your loved ones know about your choice during your lifetime in writing or orally. If you don't want to be a donor, the best way to let people know is to register on the national refusal register, online or by mail. This entry prohibits any removal of organs.
The procedure of the donation is regulated: the death of the donor must be medically ascertained by 2 doctors. An interview with relatives is also arranged by the medical team.
The doctor who takes an organ sample from a deceased person must ensure the best possible restoration of the body.
FYI
Organs may only be removed from a deceased person for therapeutic or scientific purposes. Organ harvesting is free and anonymous.
