High school scholarships are awarded to pupils attending high school and regional adapted education establishments (EREA).

This means-tested financial assistance allows eligible parents to cover the costs of their child's schooling (supplies, textbooks, etc.). It is divided into 6 steps which determine the amount allocated according to the number of dependent children in the household and the parents' income.

Campaign Calendar 2024-2025

The national high school scholarship application campaign opened on 1^er September 2024; exceptionally extended until November 15, 2024 for pupils attending public and private schools, as well as those enrolled in the National Center for Distance Education (Cned).

This extension is linked to the regulatory changes introduced this year concerning the annual allocation of high school scholarships.

How to apply for a scholarship for the 2024-2025 school year?

For pupils attending a public school

Starting this 2024-2025 school year, you can consent to automatic study your grant upon registration or re-registration of your child to secondary school, and if applicable until the end of the application campaign on 15 November 2024. This agreement is equivalent to a scholarship application.

For the automatic study of the right to the scholarship, you are asked to complete your data of extended civil status (surname and forenames, date and place of birth, as well as those of your potential cohabiting partner). This is to enable the recovery of the tax data necessary for the examination of the grant application.

If you do not consent to this arrangement, you can apply for a scholarship until November 15, 2024:

• or by using the online service Online service Scholarships, which will be reopened in the coming days (for all public high schools and EREAs, access is made by connecting to the portal School-Services via EduConnect or with FranceConnect);
• or by using the application form for a high school scholarship.

For students attending a private school

If your child is attending a private school under contract or authorized to receive national scholars, the application is made using the high school scholarship application form and must be submitted with supporting documents to the Secretariat of the registration institution by November 15, 2024.

For students enrolled in Cned

If your child is registered at the National Center for Distance Education (Cned), the application is also made using the form, which you must submit with the supporting documents to the national scholarship department of the academy of schooling at the latest on November 15, 2024.

Award criteria

• Family resources: for the year 2024-2025, the reference tax income recorded on the 2024 income tax notice for 2023 is taken into account;
• Dependent children: the number of minor children or children with disabilities and the number of adult unmarried children for whom you are responsible.

For cohabiting parents, their two incomes are taken into account. In the case of alternating residence, the income of the applicant for the grant or that of his/her reconstituted household shall be taken into account.

High school scholarship amounts 2024-2025

The allocation scale sets the following amounts for 2024-25:

• Step 1: €474, or €158 by Quarter
• Step 2: €582, or €194 by Quarter
• Step 3: €687, or €229 by Quarter
• Step 4: €792, or €264 by Quarter
• Step 5: €897, or €299 by Quarter
• Step 6: €1,008, or €336 by Quarter

The high school bursary simulator available free of charge on the website of the Ministry of National Education and Youth allows you to know if your household can benefit from a scholarship at the beginning of the 2024 school year and gives you a personalized estimate of its amount for each child attending the school.

The scholarship is paid in 3 installments (end of December, end of March and end of June).

Additional premiums awarded according to the student's education

Equipment premium

This premium of €341.71 is paid in one installment with the first quarter of the bursary to first year students of some specialties CAP, professional baccalaureate, technological baccalaureate or technician certificate.

Internship bonus

It is granted automatically to all internal national scholarship students, and modulated according to the level of scholarship held by the student. Families don't have to fill out applications. Its annual amount varies from 327 € (1^er step) up to €672 (6^e step).

Scholarship for 16-18 year olds returning to school

Young people aged between 16 and 18 who have left their training and are returning to study for a professional purpose can benefit from a return to study bonus (of €600), in addition to the secondary school grant:

• young people who resume their studies after a school break of at least 5 months;
• young people entitled to a national high school scholarship at the time of their return to school.

The young person must enroll in a secondary school to resume training, inquire about the right to a scholarship from the secretariat of the host institution and then apply for a scholarship.

Merit scholarship

Scholarship students who have obtained a Good or Very Good rating on the National Patent Diploma (DNB) are automatically awarded the scholarship on merit. The aim of this scheme is to provide these pupils with assistance in pursuing their studies. Its annual amount varies according to the level of the grant, from €402 (1^er step) to €1,002 (6^e step).
