The duration of the Disability Compensation Benefit (DCP) is extended in 2022

The Disability Compensation Benefit (DCP) is a financial assistance provided by the Department to reimburse expenses related to the loss of independence of persons with disabilities. It includes 5 forms of assistance: human, technical, accommodation, transport, animal (guide or assistance dog). Its allocation depends on the degree of autonomy, age, resources and residence. The PCH is awarded for life when the disability cannot improve.

With a view to simplifying the procedures for people with disabilities, as of 1 January 2022, the maximum period for the award of all elements of the Disability Compensation Benefit (DCP) is set at 10 years.

The PCH is granted without any time limit to persons whose disability is not likely to develop favorably.

In the case of one-off payments linked to a need for human assistance, the total payments shall be limited to two months of benefit. At the end of this period, the payment shall resume on a monthly basis.

Types of aid financed by the FCH

The Disability Compensation Benefit (DCP) can finance 5 types of support:

1. human aid: intervention of a third person for the performance of the essential acts of daily life (toilet, dressing, preparation of meals, dishes, food, travel...), for supervision and for parenting;
2. technical aids: equipment designed and adapted for disability;
3. aid for the improvement of housing and the vehicle and the additional transport costs;
4. specific charges, i.e. permanent and foreseeable expenses related to disability: incontinence protection, subscription to a remote alarm service or exceptional charges such as changing batteries for electric chairs;
5. animal aid, only for approved animals.
