Since February 16th, discotheques can be reopened, food can be eaten in some places and coffee is served at a coffee shop. Some health restrictions, such as the end of the gauges in establishments that host seated audiences and compulsory telework, were lifted as early as 2 February 2022. In the first half of February, the reduction in health measures followed the onset of the fifth wave of the Covid-19 epidemic.

At his press conference on 20 January 2022, the Prime Minister presented the timetable for the lifting of the health measures imposed on 27 December 2021. This timetable also provided for the entry into force of the vaccination pass and the opening of the vaccination recall for adolescents aged 12 to 17 years, without obligation, on 24 January 2022.

The health measures announced on 27 December 2021 to deal with the fifth wave of the Covid epidemic and the heavy circulation of the Omicron variant were planned for a few weeks. These restrictions were removed in two steps. Some restrictions were lifted on February 2, others on February 16.

Restrictions lifted since Wednesday 16 February:

  • The consumption and sale of food and drink in stadiums, cinemas or public transport are again permitted.
  • Standing concerts and standing consumption in bars can resume.
  • Dance clubs, clubs and bars can be reopened. However, the vaccine pass is mandatory and the mask is recommended.

The health restrictions that were lifted on February 2, 2022:

  • All equipment that welcomes the seated public can operate at full capacity, without limitation of the number of visitors allowed, respecting the obligation of wearing the mask. This restriction applies in particular to stadiums and large concert halls that could not accommodate more than 2,000 people indoors and 5,000 outdoors.
  • Telework (minimum 3 days) is no longer mandatory but is recommended. The companies will decide on the appropriate level, within the framework of their internal social dialogue.
  • The wearing of the mask is no longer required outside: town centres, outdoor markets, ski lifts and ski-station queues.
