Product recall, what is it?

A manufacturer may recall some of its products. This is usually because tests have been carried out which indicate that the products in question could pose risks to your health. This applies to both food and non-food products.

In the event of a health risk, manufacturers shall launch information campaigns, in particular via the press and radio, but also via the distribution outlets.

How to find out about recalled products?

Since April 2021, the CallbackConso is available online and identifies products that are subject to a recall or a potential health alert. ReminderConso refers to the recalls chronologically and all the information to recognize the product concerned.

For example:

  • Product name;
  • Make;
  • The reason for the recall;
  • Identification (lot number and use-by date);
  • Packaging;
  • The list of distributors;
  • the action to be taken and the risks to the consumer;
  • The contact number;
  • Compensation arrangements;
  • The end date of the recall procedure.

For food products, what to do if you consume it?

The instructions depend on the product you have consumed:

  • for products affected by salmonella, if you have consumed the recalled products and you see symptoms (sudden rise of fever and headache), it is imperative to make an appointment with your doctor;
  • for products affected by listeria, if you have consumed the recalled products and you experience symptoms (isolated or painful fever, headache), consult your treating doctor;
  • for products affected by histamine, in case of consumption and if symptoms appear (redness and swelling of the face appearing within half an hour after consumption of the dish, malaise, digestive disorders), consult a doctor immediately.

Warning

People with poor health may develop more severe symptoms.

How do I get my money back?
