Hunters: you have until December 31 to declare your weapons in the SIA account

Do you have a hunting gun? Are you aware that since February 8, 2023, it is mandatory to have an account in the Weapons Information System (AIS) to acquire or transfer a weapon. You have until December 31, 2023 to create this account. Service-Public.fr tells you how to do it.

The creation of a personal SIA (Weapons Information System) account should concern eventually all private arms owners.

The measure is currently applicable to holders of major weapons with a hunting license. Initially set for June 31, the account's deadline has been extended to December 31, 2023.

The following are concerned:

  • active hunters who have validated their hunting license for the current year;
  • all hunters, even if they have not had their validation renewed.

Please note

any holder who has ever obtained a hunting license and who holds at least one weapon must create a personal account in the AIS. It is not mandatory to have a current license validation to create an AIS account (but validation is required to acquire a weapon).

the central service for arms and explosives (SCAE) of the Ministry of the Interior and Overseas organizes an account creation assistance operation during the Game Fair scheduled from 16 to 18 June 2023 in Lamotte-Beuvron. Interested visitors will be able to receive full support to create their account and make changes if necessary.

How do I proceed?

You must have three documents, in digital format, to create the account in the AIS:

  • a valid identity document;
  • proof of residence of less than 3 months;
  • the hunting license.

Create your account on the dedicated AIS site (a document helps you step by step on the home page).

Once the account is created, a SIA personal number is assigned to you for the duration of the weapon's possession. With this number, the holder is identified in the system by the professionals (gunsmiths, for example), but also by the administration, which will be able to exchange directly with him via his personal account.

What is the purpose of this account?

The creation of the account allows the hunter holder to access directly his

digital rack

which lists all the weapons it possesses. If all his weapons don't go back up, he has to register them himself in his rack.

The holder shall have a period of 6 months from the date of creation of his account to update his rack, in particular by adding a weapon that should have been on it or by reporting errors (weapon that should not be on his rack because sold, information about one or more erroneous weapons, etc.).
