In times of drought, prefects trigger gradual and temporary water restrictions to ensure water sharing and proper use. The tool VigiWater, designed in partnership with Météo-France, aims to enable everyone, whether they are a citizen, a farmer, a mayor, a community or a head of company, to have a visibility on the situation in their territory and to know and implement the economic measures required.

The implementation of this tool was announced in March 2023 when the government's action plan for resilient and collaborative water management was presented. It complements the national campaign

Every gesture counts

.

FYI

the government's goal is to reach the target of 10% water saving in all sectors.

How does the tool work?

The platform allows you to enter your location and know the status of the area you are in:

  • Vigilance (green)
  • Alert (Yellow)
  • Enhanced Alert (orange)
  • Crisis (red)

Depending on your area, you will be informed of recommended eco-gestures and, where appropriate, restriction orders or prefectural framework orders. You will also find the following information on this site:

  • a map of the drought situation in France;
  • a reminder of daily eco-actions to reduce your water consumption;
  • Frequently Asked Questions
  • a calculator to estimate your annual water consumption.

Please note

the platform relies on a database provided by the departmental directorates according to the prefectural orders. Other local actors will be able to enrich it directly with information or services intended for users.

FYI

VigiEau is also available via the Météo-France app.
