Publié le 26 octobre 2023 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

Until 19 November 2023, the Public Autonomy Service is proposing a national communication campaign to promote access to information for older people and their carers that is relevant to their situation. Among the themes highlighted were: prevention of falls, solutions to combat isolation and the search for information on the price of EHPADs. Information that is available on the website “pour-les-personnes-ages.gouv.fr”.

The National Information Portal for the Elderly and their Relatives presents, through the site for-people-ages.gouv.fr, information on the rights and support available to older people and their carers. On this site, you can in particular:

  • to find out about the various financial support schemes for elderly people living at home and the steps to be taken to obtain them;
  • find the contact details of the EHPAD located near you and information about them (prices applied, services offered, aids accepted...);
  • discover the financial assistance and the various arrangements available to carers of elderly people who are losing their independence (tax assistance, daily allowance for the caregiver, right to rest, etc.);
  • see the different steps to be taken to set up home help interventions;
  • report on the operations that can be undertaken to make your home safer as you age (adaptation of lighting to avoid shadows, installation of specific equipment such as a shower seat or grab bars...), and the financial assistance that can be envisaged to achieve this;
  • find the list of local information points located near you (local information points dedicated to the elderly have different names depending on the department: local gerontological information and coordination center, independent information point, senior service...). These are places where professionals welcome you to answer your questions when you are faced with a situation of loss of autonomy. They can help you find solutions to organize a return home after a hospital stay or to prepare a request for accommodation in an institution.

Please note

During its communication campaign, the Public Autonomy Service published a video on the prevention of falls. Among other things, a doctor explains that to prevent falls in older people, it is important to exercise regularly and eat a balanced diet to maintain good physical condition. He says that if a first fall occurs, it is important not to minimize it and consult your doctor as soon as possible. You can find the entire video here.
