The decree of 20 December 2023 lowers the age for obtaining the B series driving license to 17 years.

Starting on 1er January 2024, people over the age of 17 will be able to enroll in a driving school and drive as soon as they obtain a B license. They will have to have the code before they pass the driving test.

The code can be passed from 15 years for persons registered for accompanied driving, and from 16 years for others.

It was previously possible to obtain a driving license at 17 years of age by early learning how to drive (also known as ‘accompanied driving’), but it was 18 years before driving could be completed independently.

Reminder

as part of a standard course, a minimum of 20 hours of practical instruction is required, supervised by a driving instructor.

Please note

early learning of driving (AAC) from 15 years of age remains possible after obtaining the rules of the road and following practical training in driving school. It will take her 17 years to pass the B license test.
