Training Account

CPF and driving license: conditions change

Publié le 19 février 2024 - Mise à jour le 21 mai 2024 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

The conditions for registering for a driving license via the personal training account (CPF) will change as of 19 May 2024. You can no longer use your CPF to finance driving training if you already hold a license to drive another type of vehicle. For example, if you already have the car license you cannot finance your motorcycle license with your CPF.

As of January 12, 2024, you can use your personal training account to fund preparation for the theoretical and practical driving license tests of all categories of land-based motor vehicles. This means that, since the beginning of the year, you can finance training for a driving license:

  • light or powerful motorcycles;
  • small cars;
  • light vehicles towing heavy trailers.

A decree issued in Official Journal on May 19, 2024, you must not have another valid driving license in France if you wish to use your CPF account to finance preparation for the theoretical and practical tests of a driving license.

You must sign an affidavit with the driving school in which you are enrolling certifying:

  • you do not already have a valid driving license in France;
  • the driver’s license you have is a means of entering or remaining in a certain professional world (such training cannot therefore be financed with your FTC if you intend to make only subsequent trips in a non-professional setting);
  • that you are not subject to a suspension of your driving license or a prohibition on applying for a driving license.

To register for training in preparation for the theoretical and practical tests of a driving license, you must go to the website moncompteformation.gouv.fr ; you must create an account there if you do not already have one. You can then find on this site training offers published by driving schools, as well as by organizations with a prefectural license “for the teaching of driving for a fee and for raising awareness of road safety”.

Please note

Trainings carried out as part of the early learning of driving are now eligible for CPF funding. However, you still cannot finance with your personal training account:

  • a driving upgrade;
  • a point recovery course;
  • driving hours allowing you to switch from using a manual gearbox to an automatic gearbox, or vice versa;
  • 7-hour training which allows holders of the B license to drive two-wheelers or three-wheelers.

Reminder

It was the Law of 21 June 2023 on facilitating the passing and obtaining of the driving license examination that opened up CPF funding to all preparations for driving licenses of land-based motor vehicles. This possibility was to come into effect on 1er January 2024. Finally, for technical implementation reasons (exchanges between driving schools and the My Training Account service...), registration for training courses for licenses for “light or powerful motorcycles”, “small cars” or “light vehicles towing heavy trailers” was only possible as of 12 January.
