Public officials may also act as private security officers during the 2024 OJPs

Public officials will be able to carry out, as an ancillary activity, paid employment as a private security agent during the period of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as indicated in a decree published in Official Journal May 29.

Public officials are subject to a ‘non-cumulative employment obligation’, i.e. they must devote their entire activity to their public employment.

However, the exercise of certain activities is permitted, after authorization by the employer’s administration.

It is in this context that civil servants (trainees or permanent employees) and contract agents (as well as State workers) may be authorized to engage in paid employment as security agents on behalf of a private employer during the period from 15 july 2024 to 15 september 2024.

Agents wishing to carry out this activity must apply to their employer's administration. They will have to have the Large Event Monitoring Business Card (MEC). This card requires a 106-hour pre-training.

Like any authorized private activity, such temporary security officer activity must not impair the normal functioning, independence or neutrality of the staff member's employment service or place him in a conflict of interest.

The employing administration shall inform the company on whose behalf the public official carries out the activity of security officer of the information necessary to ensure that the official carries out that activity in accordance with the working time rules applicable to him.

How do I get the SGE card?

The Professional Card “Monitoring Major Events” is specific to the needs identified in the perspective of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. You must request it before 1er September 2024 and it is valid for 5 years.
