Caregiver's daily allowance: in some cases you may be able to collect it longer

Publié le 09 octobre 2024 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

Caregiver leave allows you to temporarily stop working or work part-time to care for a disabled or disabled family member. As this leave is usually not paid by your employer, you can receive a daily allowance from the caregiver. The number of days you can receive this benefit will be increased soon when you need to help a new relative.

Add to my calendar

Currently, you can receive the daily caregiving allowance (AJPA) for up to 66 days (split into half days) over your entire working career. This cap applies regardless of how many people you help.

From 1er january 2025, once you have reached this 66-day limit you will be able to collect the AJPA for a further maximum of 66 days if you need to help a new person.

Taking into account all possible renewals of the right to benefit from the daily allowance of the caregiver, from 1er january 2025 you will be able to receive this benefit for a maximum of 264 days during your professional career.

The daily allowance of the carer is paid in the context of a leave of absence for a carer, which is itself subject to time limitations. The maximum duration of such leave shall be fixed by collective agreement, collective company agreement or extended branch agreement. In the absence of such a treaty provision, its maximum duration is 3 months. The leave can then be renewed, but it cannot, in any case, be more than 1 year over your entire career.

The assisted person may in particular be:

  • a child for whom you are responsible;
  • one of your ascendants (parent, grandparent...);
  • the person you live with as a couple;
  • your sister or brother;
  • a person with a disability or an elderly person with whom you have a close and stable relationship.

Reminder

Since 1er january 2024, the net daily allowance of the caregiver is:

  • €64.54 per day ;
  • €32.27 per half-day.

Please note

You cannot receive the caregiver’s daily allowance for more than 22 days per month. This limitation will continue to apply after 1er January 2025.
