‘Your child is safe here’: Campaign against violence in summer camp

Publié le 24 juillet 2024 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

The Ministry of Education and Youth is launching an awareness campaign against gender-based violence in summer camps.

A holiday camp is a collective welcome for minors (ACM). It is supervised by animators, graduates or in training. Every year, 1.2 million children and young people go on almost 40,000 holiday stays.

During the summer holidays, the Ministry of Education and Youth launched a campaign to raise awareness about gender-based violence in summer camps.

What measures can be taken to combat gender-based violence in summer camps?

Holiday camps are regulated by the state. Monitoring mechanisms are in place to ensure the protection of minors.

More than 1 800 000 checks are carried out each year with the group facilitators of minors: for example, a facilitator hired by two different structures for stays in July and August will be checked twice.

Facilitators who have graduated from the Bafa (Certificate of Fitness for the Functions of Facilitator) and from the professional diplomas in physical education and sport follow specific training on gender-based violence : recognition and prevention of inappropriate behavior, steps to be taken in the event of suspicion or findings of violence...
