Accommodation

How to keep a comfortable temperature at home?

Above all, you must avoid heat entering your home. To do this, air at the right time, protect yourself from the sun, avoid heat sources in your apartment or house.

  • Should you open or close your windows in hot weather? To ventilate your home, open the windows as soon as it is cooler outside than in your home: in the evening, at sunset, or in the morning very early. During the day, it is strongly recommended that windows and shutters be closed or blinds lowered so that heat from the sun and outside air does not enter the dwelling.
  • How to reduce the sun's rays on glazed surfaces? Heat enters your home through sun-exposed glass surfaces such as your windows, skylights, floor-to-ceiling windows or glass doors. Installation of exterior shutters, blinds or pergola... or interior blinds, curtains with thermal insulation can limit the impact of heat in your home.
  • What are the other tips for getting less hot in the house? Remember to limit the sources of heat at home: oven, stove, steamer, fryer... Adapt your meals and cooking methods.

How to adapt your accommodation to the heat?

How to set up your apartment when it's hot? How to insulate your house? Different solutions exist. Some can be implemented quickly, others can be implemented over a longer period. They also vary according to your financial means:

  • Set up and spend time in the coolest room of your home (exposed to the north, shaded, in the basement, or better insulated than the others).
  • Settle sun protection to reduce the impact of sunlight on glazed surfaces (windows, skylights, floor-to-ceiling windows or glass doors) creating shade.
  • Insulate your home. Find out before undertaking any work that may require the prior approval of the condominium or your town hall.
  • Financial support mechanisms exist : MaPrimeRénov’ (State premium, the amount of which is calculated on the basis of income and the project of work).

Sports activities

What sports practices to adopt when temperatures rise?

Can we run when it's hot? Which sporting activity to choose in summer? Adapt your sport based on the outside temperature, but also on your level of training, your fitness and where you practice.

The body, sport and the heat. When the temperatures rise, choose instead a sport activity practiced softly (stretching, walking, yoga, Pilates, aquagym, swimming, tai-chi...).

How to exercise when it's hot:

  1. Tailor your effort to your level of training and fitness.
  2. Consider your exposure to heat during the day
  3. Remember to hydrate yourself before, during and after the sports activity!
  4. Maintain a diet that is appropriate for sports activity
  5. Choose an outfit that limits the effects of heat
  6. Consider when and where you play sports

When and where to play sports when it's hot?

In hot weather, is there a good time to go running? Where to play sports: outdoors or in the gym? Is it a good idea to go to the pool? The answers to these questions give you solutions to adapt your sport according to the time and place of your practice.

Adapting sports to weather and air quality. The warmer it is, the better it is to play sports early in the morning or late in the evening.

Choosing places and times to practice in hot weather. Outdoor sports (such as running, biking, soccer, or swimming) can be practiced anywhere, but very early in the morning or in cool places during the day. You can also choose a green, shaded and airy place, such as a forest, a park or a garden. Indoors, you can practice sports (such as fitness, bodybuilding, or swimming), in places such as well-ventilated swimming pools; gyms, gymnasiums, etc., provided they are well refreshed.
