What's new in the 2024 school year

What developments in school organization for the period 2024-2025? In particular, it is intended for pupils in classes of 6e and 5e, the setting up of groups based on the needs of each individual for French and mathematics teaching. The back-to-school circular 2024, published in Official Bulletin of National Education on 27 june 2024, it also sets out all the priorities set for this school year.

School supplies

The list of school supplies requested by teachers must be limited and simple; the Ministry of National Education has published for this 2024 school year two models of list of essential supplies (a list for primary school students and one for middle school students).

Back-to-school allowance, scholarships and other financial assistance

The back-to-school allowance is paid a little before classes resume: on 6 August in the departments of Mayotte and Réunion; on 20 August in mainland France and in the departments of Guadeloupe, Guyana and Martinique. Medical certificate

A medical certificate is only required if a legislative or regulatory instrument so requires; it is only justified if it has a medical reason. Another simulator of Service-Public.fr informs you if a medical certificate is required for the practice of a sport, depending on the situation (age of the child or adolescent, sports discipline...).

Sports at school

Physical activity and sport contribute fully to children’s education. It can play an important role in health promotion and citizenship education (integration of common rules...). Pass'Sport is extended to the 2024-2025 season to help young people aged 6 to 30 enroll in a club, sports association or gym.

Student health

When your child is absent due to illness, you must first report it as soon as possible to his/her school and then justify this absence in writing. As regards the health of pupils, prevention and education measures adapted to the different school levels are also put in place by primary schools, middle schools and high schools.

School catering

The canteen is a special place for children to learn the basic rules of “living together” and to eat a full and balanced meal. Meal composition, minimum duration, registration conditions, price, financial assistance... Combating school harassment

Representatives of parents of pupils

Parent representatives in primary (nursery and elementary), middle and high schools are elected representatives who participate in the life of the school, in particular by facilitating relations between parents and teachers. Elections for them take place this year on Friday, October 11 or Saturday, October 12, 2024 in most of the country.

Information for parents about their child's education

As a parent of a pupil, you must be informed about the development of your child's education and the life of his/her school; this information must be transmitted to you by teachers and representatives of the parents of pupils. Rights and obligations of schoolchildren

Middle and high school students are adolescents and pre-adolescents who have rights within their school, including the right to be protected from physical or psychological violence, or freedom of conscience, information and expression; they also have obligations such as respect for the timetables of classes and activities and the use of correct language. Mobile Phone Usage

In primary and middle schools, a student is not allowed to use his or her mobile phone in the school during and outside classes (such as during school breaks). In high school, its use may be permitted, restricted or prohibited depending on the place and circumstances. School holiday calendar

The dates of the school holidays depend on the area where the school is located. Metropolitan France is divided into 3 academic zones to which must be added the Academy of Corsica.
