Minimum Pensions: Second Wave of Autumn Increases

Publié le 10 septembre 2024 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

About 850,000 people will receive this fall the increase linked to the upgrading of their “small pension”. This measure, provided for in the pension reform, concerns pensioners covered by the general scheme who receive a minimum pension. A first wave of payments had been made as early as September 2023 but some of the recipients had not yet received it and are therefore affected by this payment. This includes a one-year catch-up of the amounts due since the entry into force of the reform.

If your pension is calculated at the maximum rate and the amount is small, it can be increased to reach a "minimum pension", also called "minimum contributory". You must have contributed at least 120 quarters, regardless of the basic plan, to be eligible.

The 2023 pension reform provides for an increase in the minimum pension to 85% of the net Smic, which is automatically taken into account in the calculation of your pension.

The following conditions apply to take advantage of them:

  • have a maximum rate pension;
  • have a contribution period for all schemes of 120 quarters or more;
  • receive a basic pension of not more than € 847,57 per month (including increase);
  • the sum of all your pensions (basic and supplementary) must not exceed a certain ceiling: 1 352,23 € per month (including increase).

This ceiling shall be increased on the same dates and under the same conditions as the Smic.

A two-stage payment: September 2023 and September 2024

This increase in the minimum pension was paid in two stages to facilitate the calculation of the pension.

Around 600,000 general pension pensioners have already benefited from the pension enhancement in September 2023; the second wave of payments is due “no later than October 2024”, according to the Old Age Insurance.

If you are concerned, you do not have to make any inquiries, you will be informed by mail from September 9, 2024.

In September, you will receive the 12 months of unpaid increases. Then the increase will apply to your pension every month, starting in October.

You perceive Solidarity allowance for the elderly (Aspa) ? The amount of the allowance may decrease because it depends on your resources. If your basic pension increases, your Aspa benefit will be reduced.
