How do I know my family quotient?

School canteen, extracurricular activities, request for specific aid... For all these steps, you are usually asked to send your family quotient to establish the amount of assistance to which you are entitled. A new online service is being rolled out gradually to facilitate the transmission of this information. Where to find your family quotient, how to calculate it? Service-Public.fr informs you.

The Family Quotient (FQ) is a measure of your monthly resources. It is calculated on the basis of a formula that takes into account the composition of the family, your occupational and/or replacement income (such as unemployment benefits) and the family benefits you receive.

At the beginning of the school year, you are frequently asked for the allocation of aid, the calculation of the price of the school canteen, the nursery, etc.

How is it calculated?

The family quotient is obtained by dividing the net taxable income of the household by the number of tax shares.

The number of tax shares depends on the composition of the household. For the calculation of the family quotient, the scale is as follows:

  • Couple or single person: 2 parts.
  • 1er dependent child: add 0.5 part.
  • 2e dependent child: add 0.5 part.
  • 3e dependent child: add 1 part.
  • From 4e child: add 0.5 parts per child.
  • Children with disabilities: 0.5 more.

Where can I get my family quotient?

The family quotient is generated by the Family Allowance Fund (CAF) or the Agricultural Social Union (MSA).

  • If you are a recipient, you must go to the “My Account” area on the Caf site, under “My Attestations”. You will be able to download your family quotient certificate and print it or retrieve it in pdf version.
  • Aren't you or aren't you? In this case, contact your Caf who will help you calculate it: go to the website of the Caf, select your residence department, you will get the information to reach your Caf by mail, phone or email.

A new service to to recover the family quotient directly at source will soon be deployed throughout the country. For now, only certain communities propose it.

It is an information exchange device based on a free and secure form allowing:

  • to retrieve from the administrations holding this information: your identity data, your family quotient (Cif or MSA) and your family composition;
  • pass this information on to the community you depend on;
  • communities can use them to directly calculate your family quotient or specific help, and then reuse your identity data to update your record and assign you a rate as close to your situation as possible.
