Energy Check 2025: Eligible households will receive it in November

Publié le 03 avril 2025 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

The energy check helps millions of low-income households pay their electricity and gas bills. This year, the allocation of the energy check will no longer be automatic for new beneficiaries. Service-Public.fr informs you of upcoming changes.

The dispatch of energy checks, usually scheduled for spring, is delayed until the second half of 2025 due to the delay in the adoption of the budget law.

About 5.5 million low-income households receive an "energy check" each year, which includes between €48 and €277 (depending on income and household composition), to help them pay their energy bills.

To be eligible, the reference tax income (RFR) must not exceed certain thresholds. The eligibility criteria for the 2025 marketing year are currently being defined. You will be able to check your eligibility thanks to a simulator.

What's Changing with the Energy Check 2025

After the adoption of the 2025 budget (art. 173) published in Official Journal of 15 February 2025, the energy check will be automatically distributed to eligible households in november 2025, by the Service and Payment Agency (ASP)

In summer 2025, a new dematerialization option will be added to the scheme: the “e-check”. Beneficiaries will have the amount of their energy check directly available in their personalized space on the energy check website from the start of the campaign and will be able to use it in installments with the various electricity and natural gas suppliers who accept this service.

ReminderHowever, the energy check can no longer be used for energy retrofits.

FYI

For households that are not automatically identified in this way, it will be possible to make themselves known via the platform dedicated, or to request the check by mail.

Please note

In the interests of simplification and accessibility, the energy check website has been modernized since February 21, 2025. Beneficiaries' online processes are now facilitated by more intuitive navigation and simplified access to services.

How to identify beneficiaries of the energy check?

Recipients will be identified by:

  • the tax administration which will send the Services and Payment Agency a file establishing a list of eligible tax shelters;
  • the operators of public electricity distribution networks who will transmit the delivery points of the residential dwellings they serve;
  • electricity suppliers who will forward the list of their customers previously entitled to the energy check.

Please note

The Minister of Industry and Energy has sent a letter to energy suppliers to show flexibility towards potentially eligible customers, in particular those previously entitled to the energy check, notably in the event of unpaid payments, and to maintain their protections associated with the energy check, favoring power reduction for electricity and avoiding power interruptions.
