Basic pensions: they will increase by 2.2% as of January 1, 2025

Publié le 12 décembre 2024 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

Basic pensions will be increased by 2.2% at 1er January 2025. This was indicated by the Minister of Economy on 10 December. This announcement is the result of the motion of censure voted against the Government on 4 December.

Basic pensions will increase by 2.2% at 1er January 2025, at the height of inflation.

The latest version of the Social Security Financing Bill for 2025 proposed 2 increases for retirement pensions: an increase of 0.8% in January 2025 for all pensions; and an additional 0.8% increase in July 2025 for small retirees (pensioners whose pension is below the SMIC).

As the 2025 Social Security budget has not been adopted, the classic pension enhancement rule in the Social Security Code applies.

The rule provides for indexation of basic retirement pensions to the inflation recorded by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE), namely ‘the annual average of consumer prices, excluding tobacco, calculated on the last 12 monthly indices of these prices published by INSEE the penultimate month preceding the date of revaluation of the benefits concerned’.
