Clean vehicle aid
The ecological bonus amounts are changing
Publié le 18 décembre 2024 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
On 2 December 2024, a new scale came into force on the amounts of the environmental bonus paid for the purchase or rental of a low-emission car. This aid now amounts to a maximum of €4,000, compared to €7,000 previously. For other types of vehicles (vans, 2 or 3 motor wheels...), the ecological bonus is removed. Other support schemes for the purchase of a low-emission vehicle evolved on 2 December 2024.
The eco-bonus is a financial aid that you can apply for when you buy or rent a new low-emission car. It is 27 per cent of the cost of acquiring the vehicle. Since 2 December 2024, the amount of aid paid to you may not exceed:
- €4,000, if your benchmark tax income per unit is less than or equal to € 16 300;
- €3,000, if your reference tax income per share is more than €16,300 and less than or equal to €26,200;
- €2,000, if your reference tax income per unit is more than €26,200.
Previously, the maximum amount of this ecological bonus was:
- €7,000, if your reference tax income per unit was less than or equal to €15,400;
- €4,000, if your reference tax income per share was more than €15,400.
Where it is most advantageous for you, this scale is in effect until 1er december 2024 remains applicable if you ordered your new vehicle before december 2, 2024 (or if the rental contract was signed before that date); in this case, the billing of the car, or the payment of the 1er rent in the case of a lease, shall be paid by 14 february 2025.
You can find on our handy factsheet dedicated to the ecological bonus for a car the steps to be taken and all the conditions to be met in order to benefit from this aid.
Warning
The ecological bonus for the purchase or rental of a 2, 3-wheel or motor quadricycle has been deleted since 2 December 2024, and the bonus for buying or renting a van.
The conversion premium is also deleted as of 2 December 2024 for all vehicle categories. You could apply for this financial assistance when you scrapped your gasoline or diesel vehicle and purchased (or leased under a contract of at least 2 years) a new or used low-emission vehicle.
Please note
The terms of the retrofit premium (conversion of a heat engine into an electric or plug-in hybrid engine) changed on 2 December 2024. To benefit from it your benchmark tax income per unit must now be less than or equal to €26,200, compared to €24,900 previously. For trucks and cars, if it is a plug-in hybrid retrofit, your reference tax income per unit must now be less than or equal to €16,300, compared to €15,400 previously.
You can find all the details of the retrofit bonus on our fact sheets for a car, for a van, or for a 2,3-wheel or motor quadricycle.
