Bank charges

Instant transfers now free

Publié le 09 janvier 2025 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

Instant transfers allow funds to be transferred between bank accounts in the European SEPA area (EU countries plus Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland) within a very short period of time. This service is now mandatory free of charge.

From 9 January, in all French banks, issuing an instant transfer becomes a free transaction. This new obligation results from the implementation of a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council.

The instant transfer is a 24/7 service that takes only 10 seconds to complete. The speed with which these transfers are made must not overshadow the rules of prudence.

FYI

This provision is included in the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 March 2024 which prohibits charging more for instant transfers than for traditional bank transfers.
