Electricity: 15% reduction on regulated tariffs as of 1 February

Regulated electricity rates are down 15% at 1er February 2025, as proposed by the Energy Regulatory Commission in January. This decrease comes despite an order of December 28, 2024, confirming the end of the electricity tariff shield.

At 1er February 2025, the average level of the regulated electricity sales tariff (TRVE) shows a 15% decrease for persons who have subscribed to a TRVE indexed contract (notably the Tarif Bleu contract offered by EDF).

The Commission de Régulation de l'Énergie (CRE) sets the new tariff at €239 per megawatt hour, or one average fall of € 42 incl. VAT/MWh. The regulated tariff averaged €281 per MWh, including VAT, since 1er February 2024.

Some alternative suppliers offer market offers indexed to TRVE. Their rates will also show the drop on the 1er February 2025. You can check on your energy supplier's contract your type of contract.

If you have a contract in “market offer”, you have benefited from the market price reductions and your rate may increase in 2025 due to the increase of certain taxes.

Please note

All consumers are affected by the changes in excise duty on electricity and TURPE occurring on 1er february 2025:

  • the excise duty on electricity (internal tax on final electricity consumption, formerly known as TICFE) is increasing and returning to its pre-2022 level, rising to 33,70 €/MWh (2024: 21 €/MWh);
  • from that date, the tariff for the use of public electricity networks (TURPE) shows an exceptional anticipated increase of 7.7% (instead of 1%)er August, when it is usually increased).

Reminder

The Commission for Energy Regulation (CRE) is proposing changes to the regulated tariff for the sale of electricity (TRVE). This is calculated on the basis of three criteria: electricity supply, the tariff for the use of public electricity networks (TURPE) and taxes (excise duty, transport tariff contribution or CTA and VAT).
