What documents do you need to ride a power scooter ≤ 50 cm3?

To ride with a 2-wheel with a power not exceeding 50 cm3 (scooter, moped...), you must be at least 14 years old. In case of inspection, you must present an identity document and documents proving that the vehicle is registered and insured. If you were born after 1987, you must also have a road safety certificate (BSR) or a driver's license.

You were born before January 1, 1988
To drive with a 2 wheels with a power not exceeding 50 cm3 (scooter, moped...), you must have the following 3 documents:
- Proof of your age (identity card, passport)
- Certificate of insurance of the moped, affixed to its surface
- Carte grise moped (henceforth called certificate of registration)
Please note
driving with an unregistered motorized 2-wheel on the public highway is punishable by a fine of up to €750. In general, it is a flat-rate fine of €135.
You were born after December 31, 1987
To drive with a 2 wheels with a power not exceeding 50 cm3 (scooter, moped...), you must have the following 4 documents:
- Document that certifies that you are over 14 years of age
- Certificate of insurance of the moped, affixed to its surface
- Carte grise (now called certificate of registration) of the 2 wheels
- BSR: titleContent or driving license of another category
Failure to do so may result in a fine of up to €150. In general, it is a flat-rate fine of €35.
