You want to know how to obtain a second family record book in case of separation (if you were married, passed or cohabiting and do not hold the family record given at the wedding or the birth of the 1er child)?

You can request a second family booklet if you are separated and do not have the original booklet.

Please note

the agreement of the other parent or former spouse is not mandatory if you do not have a child.

Once separated, the request can be made at any moment.

General case

You have to go to the town hall where you live.

You must address the French consular authorities of your country of residence.

You were married

You must present your ID.

You must provide proof of the divorce or separation (judgment, certified agreement of rupture, divorce by mutual consent,...).

If you can introduce the 1er family record book, 2nd booklet is established by reproduction of the previous one.

Otherwise, the registrar provides a new booklet and records the excerpts of the acts in his possession. He then sends the new booklet to any town halls holding documents to be included in the booklet.

You were past or cohabiting

You must present your ID.

You must explain your interest in having your own booklet to justify your request (de facto separation, disagreement,...).

You must present proof (separate homes, witness statements, other parent's statement,...).

If you can introduce the 1er family record book, 2nd booklet is established by reproduction of the previous one.

Otherwise, the registrar provides a new booklet and records the excerpts of the acts in his possession. He then sends the new booklet to any town halls holding documents to be included in the booklet.

Issuance of a 2nd east booklet free.

The time limit depends on the duration of processing by each town hall concerned by the booklet (marriage town hall or birth town halls of parents and birth town halls of children).

We have to add the time it takes to get the mail out.

You can pick up the family booklet at the town hall or consulate where you made your request.
