Carte grise You are moving and you want to know your obligations regarding the registration certificate (ex-) of your vehicle? You have 1 month to change the address. The procedure is carried out on the Internet or through a authorized motor vehicle professional. It is no longer possible to make the request at the prefecture or sub-prefecture. We present you the information you need to know to complete the process.

Attention:

  • If you were a resident of a foreigners country and you settle in France, specific rules apply.
  • If you have a vehicle on long-term leasing (LLD) or leasing (financial leasing), the owner (the lender) must complete the process. Contact them to find out what documents to send them.
  • If the declaration of change of residence is not made in time, any landlord or tenant may be punished with the fine provided for contraventions of section 4e class (€135).

On the Internet

A digital copy device (scanner, digital camera, smartphone or tablet equipped with a photo function) is required.

You must have (or create) an ANTS user account or use FranceConnect.

If you have to pay the tax, you must have a credit card for payment at the validation stage.

Step-by-step approach

You must have a digital copy (photo or scan) of a proof of domicile less than 6 months old at your new address.

If the request requires further verification, documents may be requested by the instructor service such as:

  • Certificate of registration
  • Valid ID ID

If a third party makes the request for you, they must also have a digital copy of the mandate signed and your identity document.

The consequences differ depending on the format of the registration plate (AB 123 CD or 123 AB 01) and the number of changes of address made on the registration certificate.

Form AB 123 CD

Up to 3 changes of address per certificate of registration

A new certificate of registration is issued.

  • If it is your 4e change of address, cost is €2.76
  • If you have an old license plate (size 123 AB 01), the cost is €2.76

Alternatively, you can use the Internet change of address online service, which alerts the Ministry of the Interior and several public and private bodies simultaneously (examples:CPAM: titleContent,Ircantec: titleContent,Caf: titleContent, La Poste, France Travail (formerly Pôle emploi)...).

  • Your new address (the old address will be pre-filled)

For the first 3 changes of address, the sticker will be sent to you by mail in tracked mail.

When it comes to the 4e change of address, you will receive a certificate of registration under secure fold, in general within 7 working days.

However, the delay may be longer if your application is incomplete or needs to be analyzed by the instructor (the manufacture of the registration certificate can only be launched after this step). The delay may also be longer depending on the number of applications being processed.

If you are absent during the postman's passage, a notice of passage will be filed. Then you have 15 days to pick up your document at La Poste (or give a power of attorney to a third party to do it for you). After this period, the title is returned to the sender. You will need to contact the ANT to have it returned to you.

Please note
