Family event that occurs during paid leave: what are the consequences?
Verified 09 August 2023 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
Are you entitled as an employee to days of leave for family events (in case of marriage or Civil partnerships or death of a family member, for example) during your paid leave?
No, normally, if the event occurs while you are on vacation, you are not entitled to days of leave.
However, treaty provisions or a collective or a company agreement may provide for more favorable conditions.
FYI
you are not entitled to a compensatory allowance for days of absence for untaken family events.
Please note
if the employee is on leave during the birth of his child, his birth leave and the mandatory first part of its paternity and childcare leave start at the end of his paid leave.
