Defense and Citizenship Day (JDC): How can you attest to your situation?

From the age of 16, you must complete your citizen census and then participate in the JDC. Until your 25the Anniversary, you must attest to your situation with regard to this obligation, when you want to register for certain exams (BEP, baccalaureate, driving license...) or competitions subject to the control of the French public authority. Depending on your situation, the proof to provide varies. We'll explain.

The rules are different depending on whether you have done the JDC in France or abroad:

JDC in France

At the end of JDC: titleContent, one individual certificate of participation in the JDC it's given to you.

FYI  

Depending on your situation, a individual certificate of exemption from participation in the JDC or a provisional certificate providing for the postponement of your JDC may be given to you.

If you lose or have your individual certificate of participation in the JDC, or if it is damaged, you can request a certificate of administrative status to your CSNJ: titleContent.

You can make your request:

  • By email, with a scan of your identity card or passport (valid)
  • Or by post, with a photocopy of your identity card or passport (valid).

Please note

From age 25 years, the certificate of administrative status is no longer delivered. Indeed, you no longer have to justify your situation concerning the JDC to register for an exam (driver's license, BEP...) or an administrative competition organized by the French public authority.

The proof you need to sign up for the driving license examination in France depends on your age:

Before age 17

You don't have to provide proof.

17 to 24 years old

You must provide 1 of the following:

  • Individual certificate of participation in the JDC
  • Individual exemption certificate to the JDC
  • Certificate of administrative status (issued in case of deterioration, loss or theft of your certificate or exemption certificate to the JDC)
  • Provisional certificate "summons procedure" (in case of waiting to summon to the JDC).

From 25 years

You don't have to provide proof.

The proof you need to sign up for the examinations (BEP, baccalaureate...) or administrative competitions subject to the control of the French public authority depends on your age:

From 18 to 24 years 

You must submit one of the following documents:

  • Individual certificate of participation in the JDC
  • Individual exemption certificate to the JDC
  • Certificate of Administrative Status (issued upon request in case of loss or theft of certificate or JDC exemption certificate)
  • Provisional certificate "summons procedure" (in case of waiting to summon to the JDC).

From 25 years

JDC from foreigner

At the end of JDC: titleContent, one individual certificate of participation in the JDC it's given to you.
