I'm moving to France

I've found a new place to live and I'll be moving soon. Before, but also after my move, I have to make various representations to public or private organizations (Caf: titleContent, bank and insurance business, electricity supplier, town hall to vote in elections...). The most urgent steps concern the housing I am leaving, the schooling of my children and the transportation of all my furniture and documents.

Before leaving my accommodation:

I must give my landlord (or landlord) leave within a period of notice, which may be 1 or 3 months
I then have to make with him or his representative (real estate agent) a stocktaking. On this occasion, I tell him my new address.
If he refuses to take stock of the situation, I can call in a commissioner of justice (formerly bailiff and judicial auctioneer).

I'll get it back the security deposit that I paid him within one or two months of my departure.

If I am a co-owner and I sell a condo lot, I must inform the condo trustee of my new address and ask him for a expense account order.

Warning

I have to keep the papers related to this dwelling for a while.

If my children are in kindergarten or elementary school, we must ask change of establishment or keep them in their old school.
If my children go to college or high school, it may be necessary to change of establishment.
I can find out about the aids they can obtain to use public transport.
It may be necessary to reorganize the child care outside of school time.

in the event of separation, the other parent must be notified and, if necessary, the right of access and accommodation.

When I use a professional mover:

The mover is liable in case of loss or breakage during transport. I can therefore ask him to reimburse me for it.
I can be compensated in the event of delay
I can get a free quote
I can check whether the mover is registered in the carrier's register

If I don't use a professional:

I will not be compensated for theft or damage during transportation
My liability is incurred in case of material (local) damage or injury
I can be sued if I use illegal work

Whether I live alone or as a couple, I can contact my city hall or my department to eventually get help with the payment of my moving costs (invoice from the mover, rental of a truck...) or installation (purchase of furniture of 1^re necessity...). This includes aid granted by the Solidarity Fund for Housing (FSL).

If I have at least 3 children (born or unborn), I can get a removal allowance of the Caf: titleContent or the MSA: titleContent to help me pay the moving costs (mover's bill, truck rental...). I must apply within 6 months of the move.

Reminder

as an employee, i consult the collective agreement whether she anticipates that my company will cover all or part of my moving expenses.

If I have just joined the Public Service of Canada (probationary or tenured public servant), I can obtain aid for the installation of State personnel (AIP)under certain conditions.

I can eventually get a moving leave, if provided for by a collective agreement or the collective agreement on which my company depends.

I can eventually get a leave of absence.

Electricity, gas

I do the useful approaches to my gas and electricity suppliers.

I inform the companies who manage my past or future accounts or subscriptions: water services, telephony, television, internet operators.
I'm asking myself how I can have access to the internet in my new home.

FYI

If my internet operator does not have offers available for my new home, I can request the cancelation of my subscription, free of charge. for a legitimate reason.

I have to warn the tax department.

In the town I leave:

If I pay the household waste charge, I must inform the city hall (or the relevant intercommunal trade union, or the service concession holder) of my departure to have the billing stopped.
If I own or inherit a burial concession, or if I maintain it on a regular basis, I must notify the services responsible for the management of the cemetery.

In my new department, if necessary, I make a declaration of possession of weapons to the prefecture of my new home.

I must inform the organizations that administer the benefits that concern me:

Employment - Labor

If I'm an employee, I have to tell my employer.

If I am a public official (civil servant or contract employee), I must notify my administration.

If I am registered with France Travail (formerly Pôle emploi), I must update my situation.

Condominium Trustee

If I own one or more condominium lots (apartment, parking lot...), I inform the condominium trustee of my new address in order to be notified in particular of the holding of the next general meeting of the condominiums.

Carte grise

General case

I need to put my new address on the carte grise.

Leasing or long-term rental

If my vehicle is in leasing or long-term rental (LLD)However, I have to contact the lender to make the necessary changes of address.

Driving license

I don't have to change the address on my driver's license. For example, I can do it when applying for a new license (in case of loss, theft...).

I'm French

I don't have to change the address on my national ID card and my passport.

But if I want my new address to appear, I have to apply to renew my identity card and my passport.

If I'm between 16 and 25, I have to tell my national service centre.

I am European

If I am a citizen of an EU Member StateEuropean Union and that I have an EU residence card (not mandatory), I must have it modified.
