Disability: enrollment in middle school and high school

Verified 10 January 2025 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

Your child, who has a disability, is going to go to middle school or high school and you wonder how to enroll him in his future school? We present you with the information you need to know.

Step-by-step approach

Your child is affected in the college or secondary school of your sector (referred to as a reference institution) based on the school card from your home department. This is usually the closest hotel to your home.

So you have to register it in a 1er time in the college or secondary school from your sector.

If you want your child to be admitted to a college or high school different from your sector, you need to make a request for derogation to DasenDasen : Academic Director of National Education Services.

You must make the request using a form. You can pick up this document from the Directorate of Departmental Services of National Education (DSDEN) of your place of residence.

Who shall I contact

The supporting documents to be provided varies depending on the academy and the reason for the waiver request.

The request for exemption must be submitted, as appropriate, to your child's school or to the DSDEN of your place of residence.

In some departments, the demand is there online on the DSDEN website.

Your request is accepted if the desired establishment has sufficient capacity.

Warning

You must make your request for an exemption before registering your child in the desired establishment.

You should also contact the MDPHMDPH : Departmental house for people with disabilities of your department to analyze your child's needs.

Indeed, the MDPH will allow your child to benefit from the following measures in particular:

  •  Recognition of disability
  • Course of education adapted to his needs in his reference school or in a suitable educational establishment
  • Custom School Project (PPS)  with specific school arrangements
  • Loan of adapted teaching material (example: computer, software...)
  • Human support.
Who shall I contact

It is then up to the CRPD to decide, based on your child's needs, whether he or she can be kept in his or her reference institution or whether he or she should be referred to a suitable educational institution.

Depending on your child's needs, the CDAPH may offer to follow his/her education in his/her reference college or secondary school or to benefit from adapted education.
