Approach
Your child must be registered no later than the month of June before the start of school.
Registration usually starts in March, but some municipalities start registration on the 1ster quarter of the year prior to the start of the school year.
It is recommended to inquire with your city council early (or the host city council in case of schooling outside your municipality of residence).
When registering your child, you must have at least the following documents:
- Family booklet
- Identity card or copy of birth certificate of your child or any other document proving his or her identity and parentage
- Recent proof of your residence (electricity bill for example)
- Document certifying that your child has compulsory vaccinations for their age or for which they have a medical contraindication
Other documents may also be requested for school canteens or extracurricular activities.
Once the registration is completed, the city hall issues you a registration certificate indicating the school where your child is assigned.
If you have difficulty registering your child, you can contact the department's department of national education in your department.
Who shall I contact
To register your child permanently, you must attend the school indicated on the registration certificate.
The school's management shall make this entry, on presentation of the following documents:
- Certificate of registration issued by the City Hall
- Document certifying that your child has compulsory vaccinations for their age or for which they have a medical contraindication
If your child does not change schools during kindergarten, you will not have to renew his/her enrollment every year.
FYI
you may not be denied a place in an establishment on the grounds that your child is disabled.
Cost
Enrollment in public kindergarten is free.
Support
If your child's difficulties are very serious and depending on his or her type of disability, he or she may benefit from individual assistance, particularly from a person from the community sector.
You benefit from an interview with your child's teacher and the person who provides this individual assistance. This interview concerns the conditions for implementing the adaptations and educational adjustments recommended in the your child's personalized schooling project (PPS). The interview takes place, at the earliest, before the start of the school year.

Elementary
The enrollment of a child with a disability in elementary school (from CP to CM2) is compulsory from the age of 6 years.
This schooling may take place in particular as follows:
- In a regular school establishment within localized units for school inclusion (Ulis)
- To your domicile or through a distance learning
- In an educational unit within a health or medico-social institution (for example, a medico-educational institute that accommodates children with mental disabilities)
It is the Departmental Commission for the Rights and Autonomy of Persons with Disabilities (CDAPH) that decides on your child's educational orientation according to his or her needs. For this orientation, you must contact your departmental home for persons with disabilities (MDPH) before the end of the school year (kindergarten) that precedes your child's entry into school.
Depending on the direction decided by the CDAPH, your child's schooling can take place full-time or part-time, in boarding, semi-boarding or day school.
If your child is enrolled in a regular school in the local school inclusion units (Ulis), he/she will receive learning time at a rate close to that of other pupils.
Your child's educational path is subject to a personalized schooling project (PPS).
The MDPH develops this project based on your child's needs assessment.
Teachers' work is carried out with reference to the official programs, taking into account, in particular, your child's pace of learning.
