What is a Young Firefighter (JSP)?

Are you between 11 and 18 years old and interested in emergency services? Becoming a Young Firefighter (JSP) allows you to initiate yourself in the company of professional or volunteer firefighters. Enrollment is in the spring or back to school, depending on your department.

Activities at the JSP include:

  • Introduction to fire-fighting techniques
  • First aid training
  • Practicing different sports
  • Introduction to the maintenance of specialized vehicles
  • Citizen engagement

These activities take place throughout the school year, often on Wednesday and/or Saturday.

As a JSP, you benefit from a specific outfit, adapted according to the activities (sports outfit, protective helmet, braid, etc.).

The commitment as a young firefighter is recognized if you want to become a firefighter volunteer fireman.

General case

To become a JSP, you must have between 11 and 18 years (age may vary by department).

There is no nationality requirement.

You must provide the following:

  • Medical certificate attesting to the absence of a contraindication to sport
  • Tetanus vaccination certificate
  • Parental authorization (if you are a minor)

During the training, you will have to go through a medical examination.

JSP training is usually done on 4 years.

Fromcalendar year of your 16 years, as a JSP, you can spend the national certificate for young firefighter (BNJSP).

FYI  

This patent allows you to become Volunteer Fire Fighter (VFS) without having to go through a probationary period, that is to say initial training.

In Paris and in departments 92, 93 and 94

To become a JSP, you must meet strict age requirements (be born between 1er January 2008 and 1er October 2009 for the 2023-2024 school year).

You must be from French nationality.

You must reside in one of the following departments:

  • Paris (75)
  • Hauts-de-Seine (92)
  • Seine-Saint-Denis (93)
  • Val-de-Marne (94)

You must provide a medical certificate attesting to the absence of a contraindication to the practice of sport.

During the training, you will have to go through a medical examination.

Registration fees are payable in September of each school year.

FYI  

The Young Firefighter's certificate allows you to participate in a year of professional training (3e year). It provides diplomas recognized by professionals in the fire safety trades.

In Marseille

To become a young firefighter, you have to be Marseilles, aged at 14 years or 15 years.

A program of 3 years allows you to graduate as a young firefighter.

Enrollment is in the spring or back to school, depending on your department. It differs depending on where you live.

General case

To register, you must inquire with the Union départementale des Sperfières-Férieux.

It will tell you what to do and what documents to provide.

In Paris and in departments 92, 93 and 94

You should contact the Paris Fire Brigade to find out the steps to be taken and the documents to be provided.

Your application will be evaluated at a individual technical interview.

In Marseille

To register, you must ask the Marseille Fire Mariners Battalion.

They will tell you what to do and what documents to provide.
