Buying a vehicle abroad: how to get a tax receipt?

The tax discharge (or tax certificate) indicates that the vehicle is in regular situation with regard to value added tax (VAT).
It makes it possible to carte grise if you bought a new or used vehicle in a country of the European Union other than France.
The approach differs according to your department.
Warning
You have no no need of a tax exemption for a trailer, one semi-trailer, one agricultural vehicle or forester.
General case
Step-by-step approach
You must present the documents following :
- Form 1993-PART-D-SD
- Purchase Invoice (if you bought the car from a garage or company) or certificate of assignment (if you purchased the vehicle from a private individual)
- Carte grise obtained in the foreigner country
- ID on behalf of the person who purchased the vehicle
- Proof of residence in France
- If you're not not the person who bought the vehicle, mandate of representation
One certified translation carte grise may be requested if the invoice or the not written in french.
You must send your tax receipt request by email to tax department of your home department.

Step-by-step approach
You must present the documents following :

If you're an individual, the application for a tax exemption is made simultaneously that the application for registration.
If you are a professional and do not know the final purchaser of the vehicle, you can only claim the tax exemption.
The request for tax discharge is made obligatory using the online service of the National Agency for Secure Securities (NSA).

If you are a professional, the VAT any due will be paid either on your tax return VAT or immediately by credit card or direct debit.
