Your passport was stolen? We present the steps to be done. They vary according to the place where the theft was committed: in France or abroad. We present you with the information you need to know.
In France
If your passport has been stolen, a declaration of theft must be made. This declaration must be provided as part of the renewal application. The other documents to be provided in support of the file depend on the type of passport that was stolen.
You have to go to a police station or a gendarmerie.
A receipt will be provided.
The location of the application does not depend on your home. You can go to any town hall, provided that it is equipped with a recording station.

The passport is not made on site. It cannot therefore be issued immediately.
Manufacturing lead times depend on the location and time period of the application. For example, when summer holidays approach, the delays may be longer.

The passport issued is a passport biometric.
It should be removed within 3 months. After this period, the passport is destroyed.
You must remove it personally at the place of filing and sign it on the spot.

If the flight took place abroad
You have to talk to them first to local law enforcement authorities.
Then you have to go in person at the embassy or consulate the closest person to file the return. The embassy or consulate will then give you a copy of the flight declaration. The document will have to be presented when your identity document is renewed in France.

In the majority of countries, you can request that the passport be sent to you by mail. But you have to be registered in the French foreigner register of the same country, have an email address and be able to transmit files via the Internet.
If you request the mail, you must provide at the time of filing, in addition to the necessary supporting documents, a postage-paid envelope purchased from the authorized service provider in the country. Inquiries should be made with the consulate to determine the authorized service provider, the size of the envelope to be provided and the postage required.
If you do not indicate anything at the time of filing, you will have to withdraw the passport instead of filing the file.
