College and high school: information for parents on their child's schooling

Your child is in middle school or high school and you wonder how you are going to be informed about the evolution of his schooling and the life of his institution? This information should be provided to you by teachers and representatives of the parents of pupils. The means of information are varied (school report, correspondence booklet, meetings, etc.).
You have the right to be informed of your child's schooling even if you do not have parental authority.
You must mention the contact details of the 2 parents in the information sheet sent to you at the beginning of the year.
Joint parental authority
You live with the other parent
Where the parents exercising joint parental authority live together (married, common-law or former), the information transmitted to one parent is considered to be transmitted to the two parents.
You're separated
In most cases, if you are divorced or separated, you continue to exercise joint parental authority.
Warning
in the case where the child lives with one of his parents, the other parent shall continue to exercise parental authority, unless the Jaf: titleContent.
The school transmits the same information to each parent, by hand or at the addresses indicated at the beginning of the year in the information sheet.
Parental authority exercised by one parent
Parental authority may be exercised by a single parent. This is the case for a child who has not been recognized by his father or for a child who withdrawal of parental authority by the Jaf: titleContent.
If you exercise parental authority alone, the other parent may have a supervisory right on her child. A copy of the judgment must be provided to the principal.
In order to enable the parent to exercise his or her right of supervision, the school director shall transmit to him or her decisions concerning the child's schooling. However, it does not provide all the details of the child's school life.
Only the parent exercising parental authority can make decisions about the child's upbringing (choosing his school, signing his school booklet, authorizing his absences).
Warning
you must report to the school any change in family situation, address and any decision of the Jaf: titleContent about the child. This will allow you to receive important decisions about your education.
Digital text book
The digital text book is a tool to help the student. It replaces the paper textbook of the class. It can be integrated into a digital workspace (Gepi, Scolinfo, Pronote, etc.).
It allows you to follow your child's work and education.
It is accessible via the internet, with a secure connection, on the website of the establishment or via a specific application.
The digital textbook is organized by discipline. It is completed by each teacher in the class.
Access to content is done through the use of time or discipline.
The following information is included:
- Content of each session
- Homework
- Documents to use
- Advice from the teacher
- Checks
- Exercises or activities not listed in the textbook
Please note
the student may also have an individual text book.
Viewing Notes
You can consult your child's notes online throughout the school year.
The online service can be integrated with a digital workspace (Gepi, Scolinfo, Pronote, etc.).
School Newsletter
The quarterly bulletin shall contain the following information:
- Results and assessments in each discipline, provided by the teacher of the discipline
- General assessment and advice given by the school head
It is usually sent to you by post (one copy per parent in case of separation).
It can also be handed to you in person during meetings with teachers.
School booklet (in middle school)
The pupil's assessment is carried out by the teacher.
It allows you to know your skills and help you progress.
You are informed of the objectives, formalities and results of your child's assessment.
The single school booklet allows you to follow the evolution of the student's skills.
It groups for each pupil and for each cycle the following documents:
- Current cycle periodic reviews
- Completion balances of previous cycles and, in 1re year of a cycle means the periodic balance sheets of the previous year
- Certificates already obtained (first aid training, road safety certificate, school certificate "know-how to swim", etc.)
The level of proficiency of the 5 common core areas is assessed at the end of each cycle according to 4 steps:
1. Lack of control
2. Fragile control
3. Satisfactory control
4. Very good mastery

Communication with representatives of parents of pupils
The parents' representatives participate in particular in class tips, at board of directors and to disciplinary councils.
They can therefore provide you with information about your child's education.
Representatives of parents of elected students must be able to make themselves known and inform you of their actions. In particular, the school head must provide meeting rooms.
Notebook
The correspondence book is provided to your child at the beginning of the school year.
It allows you to talk to teachers about how the school works (school trips, absence of a teacher, etc.) or about your child's behavior.
You can also request an appointment with a teacher.
The correspondence book shall also consist of the rules and regulations the establishment, the list of teachers and the schedule of the class.
Please note
The correspondence book may be numerical and integrated into a digital workspace (ENT).
Individual or group meetings
If your child is new to an institution, you must attend an information meeting within a few days of the start of the school year.
Meetings can also be organized during the school year, in particular to inform you about the situation of the class, a specific procedure or the possibilities of guidance.
If your child is in serious difficulty at school, the school can also invite you to meetings to discuss solutions together.
If you have a problem with pedagogy, please contact the principal teacher of the class.
If your issue is absences and behavioral issues, contact the Senior Education Advisor (SCE).
The head teacher and the teachers must take the necessary steps to respond to your requests for information and appointments. Any negative answer must state the reasons.
