What is a probationary driving license?

What applies to you ?
You have a probationary driving license in the following 2 situations:
- You get the license for 1re time
- You get the license as a result of invalidation or a judicial annulment.
So, if you have license B and pass the motorcycle license A2, the probationary license does not concern you.
The probationary permit shall contain 6 points (instead of 12 points).
At the end of each year, the probationary permit is increased by several points if you do not commit of infringements leading to a loss of points.
The duration the probationary license varies depending on the type of driving learning and whether you are taking additional training.
Traditional learning, supervised or supervised driving

Without further training
Your probationary license lasts 3 years.
You have 6 points.
Your license is increased by 2 points at the end of each trial year.
However, you must not commit of infringements leading to a loss of points.
With additional training
Your probationary license lasts 2 years.
You have 6 points.
You must follow the additional training between 6e and 12e month after the permit has been obtained.
You must take the training in a school that has the label "Quality driving school".

Training lasts 1 day (7 hours).
One training certificate you are given the benefit of having completed all the training.
Your license is increased by 2 dots at the end of 1re probationary year, and 4 points at the end of 2of probationary year
However, you must not commit of infringements leading to a loss of points or a measure restricting or suspending the right to drive.
Of specific rules for point recovery apply to the probationary permit.
Special rules shall apply concerning the speed and the permitted alcohol content.
You must affix the "A" sign in the back of your vehicle.
You have no no steps to take.
You reach a capital of 12 points if you have not lost points.
If you have lost points, you have the points remaining on your license.
You will be able to reach the capital by 12 points in 2 ways:
- Do not commit offenses for 2 years from the last point withdrawal (3 years if a point withdrawal is due to a offense or a contravention of 4th or 5th class)
- Voluntarily follow every year a road safety awareness course. The course allows to recover up to 4 points within the limit of the maximum 12 points of the permit.
