What proof should you provide to register for France Travail (formerly Pôle emploi)?

To register for France Travail as a job seeker, you must present documents attesting to your identity.

The type of document to be provided depends on your situation: French or a national of a European country or a national of a non-European country.

Please note

In any case, you must reside in France.

French

You must provide at leastOne of the documents following:

  • Vital card with your social security number
  • National identity card
  • Passport
  • Civil or military disability card with photograph.

If you cannot provide the original of one of these documents immediately, you can apply to obtain one of these documents: for example, the receipt for an identity card renewal application.

National of European country

If you are a national of a Member State of the European Union (EU), of the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, Monaco, Andorra or Saint Martin, a valid identity document is enough to sign up for France Travail.

National of a non-European country

You must provide one of the residence permits following:

  • Resident Card valid
  • Residence card multi-annual with the indication salaried worker
  • Residence card bearing the mention talent passport
  • Temporary residence card bearing the mention salaried worker
  • Temporary residence card bearing the mention temporary worker where the employment contract has been terminated before its end by an employer established in France or in the case of force majeure
  • Temporary or multiannual residence card bearing the entry private and family life
  • Provisional authorization of stay or receipt of first application or request for renewal of a residence permit bearing the entry authorizes the holder to work
  • Long-stay visa as residence permit (VLS-TS) mention salaried worker or private and family life
  • Provisional residence permit issued to foreigners who have lodged a complaint or testified in criminal proceedings or who are granted protection
  • Temporary residence card bearing the mention job search or company creation
  • Multi-annual residence card bearing the mention beneficiary of subsidiary protection
  • Multi-annual residence card bearing the mention beneficiary of stateless status or the mention family member of a beneficiary of stateless status.

Please note

Some receipts delivered pending a definitive title allow you to sign up for France Travail.

This is particularly the case for:

  • Receipts for a residency card renewal
  • All residence permits with the mention authorizes the holder to work as soon as it is a first application
  • Applications for renewal of a temporary or multiannual residence card if the permit in question allows entry on the list
  • Asylum seekers, in the case of an application for a residence permit bearing the entry foreigner admitted for asylum 
  • For refugees, in the case of an application for a residence permit bearing the recognized refugees
  • For beneficiaries of subsidiary protection in the event of an application for a residence permit pending their residence card private and family life.
