Should a non-European foreigner child have a residence permit?
Verified 08 February 2024 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
No, the residence permit concerns your parents and is not provided for if you are the minor child. You are indeed registered and linked to the immigration file of your parents and/or legal representatives.
But from your 16th birthday, if you wish to pursue a professional activity, follow a work placement or register with France Labor (formerly Pôle emploi), you must request a residence card.
Please note
If you are the parent or the holder of parental authority of a minor foreigner child, you can request a Minor foreigner Movement Document (MRD), in particular to facilitate return to France when traveling abroad.
