You are under 26 and you want to increase your savings? Are you looking for a safe and paid placement to deposit your child's savings over the age of 12? You can open a young booklet. It's a capped book, and the interest rate is set by the state. Money remains available and withdrawals are possible at any time. We present you with the information you need to know.
To open a young booklet, the booklet holder must complete the 3 conditions following:
- Be between 12 and 25 years old
- Have his habitual residence in France
- Don't have a young booklet already.
It is possible to open a booklet from the age of 12:
- Either at the request of the young person himself
- Either at the request of his legal representative (for example: parent).
For the opening of the booklet, the banking institution will require the signature of the minor's legal representative.
To verify that the opening conditions are fulfilled, the future beneficiary of the booklet must provide the bank with the following documents, in particular:
- Declaration on honor certifying that he is ordinarily resident in France and that he does not already hold a booklet for young people
- Any document (translated into French) or official document establishing his date of birth
- If he is a minor, the name and address of legal representative.

When the booklet is opened, the banking institution issues a written document to the booklet holder reminding him of the prohibition on holding several booklets at the same time.
To open a young booklet in a new bank, you must close your first young booklet. It is not possible to request the transfer of a young booklet.

Since 1er july 2023, to make a transfer to the youth booklet, the bank can no longer require that the bank account and the youth booklet are both open in the same bank.
Withdrawal
Only the holder of the booklet for young people can make withdrawals at the counter.
In case of withdrawal, most institutions require a minimum amount of €10.
But the bank must respect the withdrawal limits set by the legal representative as long as the holder is a minor.

A withdrawal cannot account for the debit account. Withdrawal will be blocked if the balance of the booklet is not sufficient.
The ceiling for payments on the young person's booklet is set at €1,600
The balance of the young booklet may exceed the ceiling when the bank adds interest.
In this case, it is possible to keep your booklet young but it will no longer be possible to make new deposits.
Rate
The banks can freely fix the remuneration of the young booklet. The remuneration of the young booklet may therefore vary from one bank to another.
But its annual interest rate cannot be inferior to that of booklet A (currently it is 2.4%).
Calculation of interest
Interest is calculated on 1er and the 16th of each month.
The date of the value taken into account for the calculation of interest varies according to the date of the transaction (deposit or withdrawal):

The sums deposited bear interest if they are invested in whole fortnight.
On December 31 of each year, the interest accrued on the year is added to the capital.
The interests of the young booklet are exempt income tax and social security contributions.
The young booklet can be closed at any time to recover the funds.
It is not necessary to give a reason for closure.
The closure will be automatic in the year of the holder's 25th birthday.

If the account is closed in the course of the year, the interest earned is credited on the closing day.
After closing, the bank must transfer the amounts credited to the booklet to another account designated by the holder. If the bank has no indication, it must transfer the sums to a suspense account.
Voluntary closure
The steps to close the booklet for young people are different depending on whether the holder is a minor or an adult.

Closing the year of the holder's 25 years
The booklet holder must ask for the closure of his young booklet at the latest on 31 December of the year of its 25the birthday.
If the request for closure is not made spontaneously, the bank must itself close the booklet for young people.
