National Police Operational Reserve

You want to integrate the operational reserve of the National Police? You can apply if you are a volunteer citizen, former security assistant or retired police officer. You must meet several conditions before you can file a file. If your application is accepted, you will have to undergo an interview and a medical examination before signing your contract of employment. Your missions will be compensated.
What applies to you ?
Volunteer citizen
The commitment to serve in the Police Operational Reserve consists of:
- Operational missions (e.g. participating in a perimeter security during accidents, participating in Operation Tranquility Vacation, verbalization under the authority of a judicial police officer)
- Specialized missions (e.g. legal expertise, communication, IT).
You must meet the following conditions:
- Be of French nationality
- Be between 18 and 67 years of age
- To have done the national service or the Defense and Citizenship Day (JDC)
- Not to have been convicted of a crime or punishment entailing the loss of your civil rights (right to vote...) and the prohibition to hold public office.
You must also be medically fit.
A recruitment medical examination will be carried out.
It's a question of whether there is a contraindication to the performance of the duties assigned to police reservists.
This is particularly the case for the following:
- Carrying and use of weapons
- Wearing uniforms and special equipment
- Strenuous and prolonged physical exertion including prolonged standing
- Use of physical force.
In addition to these conditions, you agree to comply with the code of ethics of the national police and gendarmerie.
You must complete the following online form:
Apply to the National Police Operational Reserve (Volunteer Citizen)
You must provide the following:
- Letter of motivation
- Resume (CV)
- Photocopy of an identity document valid
- Full copy of birth certificate with filiation
- Copy of the individual certificate of participation in Defense and Citizenship Day or a copy of the exemption certificate
- Extract from the criminal record - bulletin n°3.
If your application is successful, you will need to make the following selections:
- Interview
- Physical fitness check
- Preparing for the operational reserve.
The contract of employment shall specify in particular the following:
- Assignment Directorate or Service
- Level of functions performed
- Tasks that may be entrusted to you
- Duration of the contract and the trial period
- Compensation rules
- Organization of working time
- Training obligations
- Conditions for interruption or termination of your contract
- Social protection system
- Disciplinary procedures.
You sign a contract of engagement for a period of 1 year to 5 years.
The duration of your assignment is a maximum of 90 days per year.
FYI
As a reservist police officer, you will be required to respond to any summonses you receive.
You receive 10 days of initial training at a national police academy. The training program shall consist of the following subjects:
- Organization and functioning of the police
- Explanation of the Reservist's Duties
- Safety rules in intervention
- Information about weapons.
Your training periods are compensated.
FYI
If you are recruited as a specialist, you will complete only one day of training. If you are performing assignments relating to deputy judicial police officers, you will participate in a 10-day additional training course on criminal law and criminal procedure.
During the exercise of your mission, you have a professional reservist card.
Missions may require uniforms.
During the mission, you must wear an operational reserve badge.
Missions may require the use of a firearm and a bulletproof vest.
Compensation depends on your situation:
General case

Loyalty bonus
You can receive a loyalty bonus if you meet the following 2 conditions:
- You signed a 1er contract of 3 years or more, renewed by 2e contract of a minimum duration of 3 years
- You have completed a minimum of 37 days of activity per year of engagement during the 2nde contract.
The amount of the loyalty premium is €250 raw.
The loyalty premium shall be paid each year, starting from the month following each anniversary of the signing of the 2e contract.
Example :
You're signing your 2nd contract on 1er January 2024. The loyalty bonus is paid to you on the 1ster February 2025.
Specific study allocation
You can get a specific education grant if you are enrolled in a vocational or higher education establishment and that you commit to being a reservist.
This allowance is for an amount of €100 gross per month, or €1,200 crude over 12 months.
To qualify for this allowance, you must complete the 3 conditions following:
- Have under 25 years to 1er October of the year of enrollment in the professional or higher institution
- Have signed at the time of your application for an allowance a 1er five-year contract of employment
- You agree to 37 days of activity per school year (between the date of signature of the commitment and enrollment in a higher student year).
Your application must be filed with the organization to which you report as a reservist (for example, army or gendarmerie).
Participation in the financing of driving license B
A contribution to the financing of the driving license B may be granted if you respond to all conditions following:
- You signed a contract of employment before the age of 25
- You've never held a B driver's license
- You have completed at least 50 days of activity on the reserve
- You are more than 2 years away from the end of your engagement contract
- You have proof of enrollment in a driving school.
The amount of the participation is €1,000.
If your assignment or training lasts more than 10 days per calendar year, you must obtain permission from your employer.
If not, you just have to tell him.
Your employment contract temporarily ceases during periods of employment and training in the police operational reserve. As a result, you do not receive any salary from your employer. However, this period shall be regarded as a period of actual work, particularly as regards seniority and advancement.
You can't be fired, you can't be professionally downgraded, or you can't be disciplined because you're hired as a reservist.
If you do not comply with the terms of your contract, the recruitment authority may order your removal from the civil reserve (for example, if you are never available).
Your employment contract will also be terminated if you no longer meet the physical fitness requirements.
Former Security Assistant
The commitment to serve in the Police Operational Reserve consists of:
- Operational missions (e.g. participating in a perimeter security during accidents, participating in Operation Tranquility Vacation, verbalization under the authority of a judicial police officer)
- Specialized missions (e.g. legal expertise, communication, IT).
You must meet the following conditions:
- Be between 18 and 67 years of age
- Have been a security assistant for at least 3 years of effective service on the date of signature of the contract of service in the National Police Civil Reserve
- Not having been convicted of a crime or punishment resulting in the loss of your civil rights (right to vote...) and the prohibition to hold public office
- Not to have been disciplined.
You must also be medically fit.
A recruitment medical examination will be carried out.
It's a question of whether there is a contraindication to the performance of the duties assigned to police reservists.
This is particularly the case for the following:
- Carrying and use of weapons
- Wearing uniforms and special equipment
- Strenuous and prolonged physical exertion including prolonged standing

Please note
If you have a full copy of Part III of your future business passport or follow-up booklet with a copy of the card way of serving, you must attach the form.
If your application is successful, you will need to make the following selections:

- Physical fitness check
- Preparing for the operational reserve.
You are exempt from these selections if you have left the police for less than 3 years.
The contract of employment shall specify in particular the following:
- Assignment Directorate or Service
- Level of functions performed
- Tasks that may be entrusted to you

- Organization of working time
- Training obligations
- Conditions for interruption or termination of your contract

- Legal knowledge necessary for the performance of your mission.
Your contract ended less than 3 years ago
You receive training focused on shooting, gestures and professional intervention techniques.
You also benefit from a knowledge upgrade at the request of your service.

In the 2 cases, you will be subjected to a continuing training throughout your engagement.

You must meet the following conditions:
- Be under 67 years of age
- Not to have been automatically or invalidly retired
- Not to have been disciplined.
You must also be medically fit.
A recruitment medical examination will be carried out.
It's a question of whether there is a contraindication to the performance of the duties assigned to police reservists.
This is particularly the case for the following:
- Carrying and use of weapons
- Wearing uniforms and special equipment
- Strenuous and prolonged physical exertion including prolonged standing
- Use of physical force.
In addition to these conditions, you agree to comply with the code of ethics of the national police and gendarmerie.

The contract of employment shall specify the following:
- Assignment Directorate or Service

- Tasks that may be entrusted to you
- Duration of the contract and the trial period
- Compensation rules
- Organization of working time
- Training obligations
- Conditions for interruption or termination of your contract
- Social protection system
- Disciplinary procedures.
You sign a contract of engagement for a period of 1 year to 5 years.

As a retired member of the National Police, you must respond to reminders from the Ministry of the Interior in case of threats or serious disturbances to public order or exceptional events. For example, terrorist threat.
This obligation lasts 5 years after your retirement.
As part of this obligation, you may also be called to an operational reserve day. This action, designed to check the responsiveness of the device, allows you to participate in shooting training sessions and update your professional knowledge.
You will benefit from continuous training including shooting training sessions and refresher training if the missions assigned require it.
