Fast border crossing: how to use a Parafe lock?

The rapid passage at the external borders, called Parafe: titleContent, allows the automated control travelers to France when entering or leaving the Schengen area. It is reserved for European citizens and nationals of certain third countries holding a biometric passport.

The Parafe device is optional and free.

You're an adult

The rapid border crossing system at the external borders, known as Parafe: titleContent, allows automated screening of travelers in France when you enter or leave the Schengen area.

It is reserved for European citizens, as well as certain third-country nationals with biometric passport.

The Parafe automated control device is optional and free.

It enables border crossing formalities to be carried out in an automated, smooth and rapid manner.

Your passport must be biometric and valid.

If you enter or leave the French territory, the use of the Parafe lock differs according to your nationality.

Leaving France for a country outside the Schengen area

You can use the Parafe lock if you are a citizen of one of the following countries:

You must follow the Parafe panel to locate the Automated Parafe lock.

You must complete the following steps:

  1. Show you alone at the entrance of the lock Parafe
  2. Remove your glasses, scarf, hat and mask
  3. Place your passport on the reader at the entrance of the lock, on the page of the photo
  4. After displaying your passport reading, enter the lock
  5. Look at the camera (facial recognition) and follow the instructions displayed on the screen in the airlock
  6. Exit the lock chamber when the border crossing controls are complete and the lock doors open

FYI  

the passage through the initialing device is not not obligatory. You can choose to be manually controlled by a border guard (e.g. disabled, elderly).

The data used for you are the data contained in your passport and the facial image taken by the camera of the lock.

More specifically, it is your name, first name, date of birth, nationality, type and number of your passport, its validity date, and the scanned image of your face.

All this data is intended for customs officers (border guards).

This data shall be retained only the time it takes to pass through the Parafe lock. Once the Sas has been cleared, all your personal data is deleted.

You can access your data.

You also have:

  • a right of opposition,
  • a right of rectification,
  • and a right to restriction of the processing of your data.

This processing is controlled by the Ministerial Data Protection Officer.

If, as a result of this dispute, you feel that your computer rights and freedoms have not been respected, you can make a complaint to the Cnil: titleContent.

The Parafe lock queries the following databases:

  • Schengen Information System (SIS)
  • Interpol Stolen and Lost Travel Document (SLTD) Database
  • Wanted Persons Index (RFT)

You are under 12 years of age or older

You are not allowed to use a Parafe lock to leave the territory.

Warning  

if you live in France and travel abroad alone, you must have a authorization to leave the territory (AST) from your parents.

Age

You must have 12 years or older to use a Parafe lock.

Condition

You can use the Parafe lock only when arriving in France.
