What city planning authorization is required to build a garage?
Verified 14 February 2025 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
To build a garage, you must file a prior declaration of works (DP) or an application for a building permit (PC). The authorization to be deposited depends on the location of the land (in the urban area of a MOREMORE : Local city planning Plan or not, in protected area or not), the layout of the garage (independent or not) and its surface. We're presenting the regulations.
In any case, you must respect the rules of the PLU of your commune. To find out about these rules, you must contact the city planning department of your city hall.
If the PLU does not provide for special rules, you must build your garage either at the edge of your property or at least 3 meters from it.
An RFP or PC is required depending on whether your garage is independent or not.
