Verified 17 September 2024 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

Is your employment situation changing (for example, you have obtained a new job or become a public servant)? In some cases, a procedure is to be carried out with the Social Security. The formalities vary depending on whether you depend on the general scheme (CPAM: titleContent) or the agricultural scheme (MSA: titleContent). We're taking stock of your obligations.

Beginning of higher education

You don't have to do anything if you're already attached to Social Security. Indeed, you remain part of your current social protection system (usually that of your parents).

FYI

To supplement health insurance reimbursements, you can join a health complementary.

Change of job

A distinction must be made between whether you become an official (or employee of a public sector company), self-employed or agricultural worker:

You become a public servant (or employee of a public sector company)

You are dependent on a special social security scheme if you become a public servant.

You should ask your employer before declaring a change of situation to the Health Insurance.

The same applies if you become an employee of a public company (examples: SNCF, Banque de France, RATP).

You become self-employed

If you become a craftsman, trader, industrial or professional, by creating or resuming a self-employed activity, you are automatically insured and supported by the general social security system for your compulsory health coverage.

FYI

Health Insurance details the rights and procedures as self-employed (examples: artist-author, intermittent performer, property rental).

You become an agricultural employee or farmer

The AMM is the compulsory social security scheme for agricultural employees and self-employed persons. By becoming an agricultural employee or farmer, you join the MSA.
